Thierry Henry ‘IS interested in becoming manager of the USMNT’4 min read
Thierry Henry is reportedly open to the idea of managing the USA men’s national team amid claims he turned down the chance to be head coach of the French women’s national team.
The Arsenal legend left his post as Belgium’s assistant manager following the nation’s dismal World Cup campaign.
His then No. 1 Roberto Martinez went on to take charge of Portugal while Henry’s next step in coaching remains unclear as he continues his punditry duties.
But he is interested in the USMNT vacancy, according to ESPN, with US Soccer yet to decide its permanent boss following the investigation into previous head coach Gregg Berhalter.
Anthony Hudson has acted as interim USA boss amid the US Soccer scandal that has dominated the headlines since last year’s World Cup.

A wild few months of stunning rumors and bombshell developments began in Qatar when Gio Reyna was almost sent home for his perceived lack of effort, leading to the release of shocking details and the start of a formal investigation.
Everything came to a head this week when the results of the investigation were released, with details about Reyna’s parents – Claudio and Danielle – sending years of texts, emails and calls to US Soccer chiefs complaining about the treatment and playing time of their son in the international setup.
The investigation, ordered by US Soccer, was into a domestic violence incident involving Berhalter and his now-wife Rosalind in 1992.
Berhalter admitted to kicking his wife after she hit him in the face in an argument during a night out at a bar when they were 18, and the report deemed it an ‘isolated incident’, with ‘no evidence to suggest’ there were any further issues.
The drama was thrust into the spotlight in the wake of the World Cup when it was revealed Claudio and Danielle Reyna – the parents of player Gio, and former friends of the Berhalters – had notified chiefs of the 1992 incident.
The report said that the Reyna parents spoke to then-US Soccer chief Earnie Stewart on the night of December 11, 2022 to disclose ‘information about Mr. Berhalter… that Mrs. Reyna had known for decades and… the information was disclosed at a time when it would be expected to discourage or otherwise influence the organization from offering a contract extension to Mr. Berhalter.’
However, despite these actions, Alston and Bird’s report says they do not constitute blackmail or extortion.

In the wake of the report being released, the USSF have since confirmed that Berhalter remains in the running to continue as USA head coach, despite him stepping back from the team in the wake of the World Cup.
Henry has thrown his hat into the ring with the USA returning to action next week in the CONCACAF Nations League.
French Football Federation committee member Jean-Michel Aulas did reveal that he personally asked the former Montreal Impact boss whether he would be interested in taking over from Corinne Diacre as France Women boss.
‘He considered it, Thierry,’ Aulas told Le Figaro. ‘I personally asked him the question, but the response was not positive.
‘He was obviously very flattered that he was asked. We did it because we were told he might be interested.
‘But it will not be Thierry Henry. I think he is moving on to other projects.’
In January, Henry denied reports he had offered his services to the Belgian FA to takeover as the head coach.

‘I would like to make it abundantly clear that contrary to written reports, I have never contacted the Belgian FA offering my services as the new first team coach. I think it’s vital that the truthful version of facts is always presented,’ he told Sky Sports.
Henry did suggest he was interested in the USMNT head coach role last month.
‘Would I put my name in the hat? First and foremost, that’s a tricky one to talk about,’ Henry told CBS.
‘Roberto Martinez went to coach Portugal and I’m not going with him. Being a number two is no longer something I would like to do.
‘Massive respect for the boss, he gave me an opportunity when no one else did. I’d like to have a crack [at management] again.
‘Do I know the [American] players? Yeah, I know the players. Do I know the league? Yeah, I know the league. It’s a different ballgame to talk about it now like that, but would I want to be a manager at any level?
‘Yes, of course, that’s something I would want to do. But to go back to the US national team and the US in general, what’s the plan? What’s the philosophy? What do you want to be?
‘It’s not because you host a competition (like the US is with the 2024 Copa America and 2026 World Cup) it is no guarantee that they are going to go far.’
