Milan needed a stoppage-time own goal from Nikola Milenkovic to secure a 2-1 win against Fiorentina on Sunday. The hosts took 90 seconds to take the lead when Olivier Giroud flicked the ball to Rafael Leão, who surged into the box and calmly scored.

Antonin Barak deservedly equalised after 28 minutes when his shot went in after deflecting off defender Malick Thiaw following scrappy play from Milan inside the box.

Milan started the second half more aggressively and had a good chance after five minutes when Giroud broke free from his marker inside the box, but Pietro Terracciano superbly saved his shot from close range.

Fikayo Tomori prevented a potential Fiorentina goal on the hour mark with a well-timed tackle on Jonathan Ikoné inside the area. Koné could have secured the win one minute before stoppage time, but Tomori saved Milan again by blocking the shot on the goalline.

One minute into stoppage time, Ante Rebic sent a cross into the box, with Milenkovic miscalculating and directing the ball into his own net. Milan are second with 33 points as they go into the World Cup break, with third-placed Lazio playing at Juventus on Sunday night.

Two goals from Edin Dzeko helped Internazionale to a dramatic 3-2 win at Atalanta. Ademola Lookman put the hosts ahead from the spot, blasting home his seventh of the season after Stefan de Vrij had fouled Duván Zapata. Dzeko’s tap-in levelled the scores just before half-time and the striker benefited from a fortunate ricochet after the break to make it 2-1 with his knee.

Roma earned a 1-1 draw at home to Torino in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Karol Linetty gave the visitors the lead after 56 minutes but Nemanja Matic was on hand at the very end to make it a point apiece.

Paris Saint-Germain signed off for the World Cup break with a 5-0 win against Auxerre kickstarted by a contentious Kylian Mbappé goal. The Frenchman rifled home after Neymar appeared to handle the ball – the goal stood after a VAR check – before Carlos Soler’s header and Achraf Hakimi’s clinical finish extended the lead after half-time.

Renato Sanches and Hugo Ekitiké both took advantage of late defensive errors to complete the rout and keep PSG five points clear of second-placed Lens.

Freiburg’s Vincenzo Grifo scored the earliest Bundesliga hat-trick in 31 years to lead his team to a 4-1 victory over 10-man Union Berlin on Sunday, earning them second place as the Bundesliga breaks for the World Cup.

The Italy international opened his account after four minutes with a well-struck penalty before doubling their lead only two minutes later when he launched and then completed a quick break with Michael Gregoritsch.

Union had a chance to pull a goal back when they earned their own spot-kick in the ninth minute but Robin Knoche hit the post, and to make matters worse for the visitors, Diogo Leite was sent off for a last-man foul a little later, earning Freiburg another penalty.

Grifo again stepped up to convert it and complete his first ever Bundesliga hat-trick in the 20th minute while taking his season tally to nine league goals. Gregoritsch turned from provider to scorer on the stroke of half-time to put the game to bed.

Freiburg, enjoying their best ever Bundesliga season, moved up to 30 points, four behind leaders Bayern Munich. Union have managed just one win from their last five matches.
